So we reach the end of the school year and, as usual, we are reflecting on three terms of hard work but we are also saying goodbye to good friends. Several staff are moving on to new jobs elesewhere but two long-serving members of staff are going to retire. So we say thank you and good luck to Divisional Head, Liz Hindes and Assistant Head Judie Poster. They will be hugely missed.

On other matters, you can see some photos from our very successful Sports Day here.

Our Charity Day last week raised over £1000 for Chain of Hope.

Happy New Year! Let's hope 2008 is happy, healthy and successful for all members of our school community.

School restarts today after two weeks of glorious holiday. January can be a bleak month but at EWS there is lots to look forward to. As always. So keep visiting this page for more information .

In the meantime, you can have a look at the new Health and Social Care web pages that are gradually being created by Mrs Dharmasena. They are rather splendid.

Oh, by the way, I'm sure our readers will not need reminding that 2008 is the International Year of the Potato. Here is a very infomative website on everything Solanus Tuberosum-related. Enjoy.

30.10.07

Okay, so the weekend was better for our South African friends than for supporters of English rugby! Not to worry, we had all had a half term to get over the disappointment.

This first week back is a busy one and we hope to bring you news of an exciting day of science tomorrow.

But in the meantime, here are some photos from the MFL Department's recent trip to Boulogne avec ses etudiants de Francais.

15.10.07

What a weekend! Especially if you like rugby and support England or South Africa. The final is a mouth-watering prospect but until it arrives, let's return to school matters:

Last week the Geography Department made a series of successful field visits to Hastings with Year 9. Thankfully, the weather was pretty kind to them all week.

A reminder that next week is half term and school will resume a week on Monday, the 29th. Also there will be a training day for staff on Friday 2nd of November and so pupils will not be required to attend on that day.

The somewhat inacurately named "Website of the Week" page currently features a site that has held the interest of the EWS web team for the past few weeks. It also has a relevance to an exciting project that will be launching in school very soon.

8.10.07

The school took part in Jeans for Genes day on Friday. Everyone came to school wearing denim and lots of money was raised, continuing our fine tradition of charity work. We also collected unwanted clothes for the Clothes Aid charity. There are some photos from the day here.

1.10.07

A reminder that it is our evening for prospective parents of Year 6 pupils on Thursday (4th Oct) from 6.30pm - 9.00pm. School will close at 1.15pm on this day and will reopen late after break on the morning of Friday 5th.

27.9.07

25.9.07

Various trips are currently running and we hope to have pictures available very soon from the Year 13 Biology field trip to Wales and the Latin trip to Sorrento, Italy.

The first edition of the Head's Newsletter in this new school year was published today. It is a big one! Lots of useful information, lots of colour pictures and, as always, an excellent insight into the life of our school. You can download your own copy here.

There is currently a vacancy for a parent governer and, if you are interested, you can download a copy of the nomination form here.

More news to follow soon.

18.9.07

Hello? Hello? Is anyone there?

And we're back! After a few technical issues the fabulous EWS News Page returns for the new academic year. So what if the summer finally arrived when we were all back at work? We're not complaining. Much.

Anway, lots to catch up on (and loads has already happened since returning two weeks ago) so to bring a little order to the chaos, here goes:

Our exam results were excellent. Expressed simply the school achived 74% A*-C and 99% A*-G at GCSE (AS and A2 results to follow). however, these figures do not reflect the "value" the school added to the pupils sitting exams; in other words the amount pupils improved in their time with us, but we will publish this data in the near future.

There is a really handy guide to all the important dates for the year available here. This contains all term dates, all parents' evenings, plus a host of other useful dates. We will place it permanently on the site (i.e. not just on the news page) in the near future.

We are starting this year as a Training School. More about our exciting new role to follow soon.

Remember that our brilliant Flickr site is available here. This was a great success in the second half of last year and, to date, the photos have had 7000, yes 7000 views. Lots of our pupils have been able to use the site to download their own copies of pictures from shows, sports events, trips etc.

Last year's news is archived in our predictably named News Archive section here.

Our new PE and Performing Arts Block is looking more and more like a building. We will get out with our camera in the next few days to update the photos.

Is there more? Of course there is. We will attempt to provide more exciting EWS news in the next few days. But for the moment, it is good to be back. It really is.
