On Sunday 23 rd September, 35 girls and four teachers arrived to the hustle and bustle of Heathrow Airport. Our aim – to get to
Naples Airport, Italy. After checking in and shopping in the lounge area we had to board the plane. Unfortunately we were not
all sitting together, but it was only for about two and a half hours. In a way I guess this was good for the other passengers on the
plane because we were all very excited and would have probably made too much noise.

We eventually arrived at Naples and we had a two hour tour of Naples – going around in the coach and getting out for picture
taking and seeing the architecture without the restrictions of the coach. At one of the times we were allowed off the coach,
I learned that the Italians really do make the best ice cream(gelato)!
We also saw an old open theatre (San Carlo) which was beautifully designed.

When we got back to the hotel (we were delayed by one hour) we were able to take our suitcases to the rooms we would be
staying in for the next four nights. We were all a bit drained, but we were down for dinner five minutes later. The food was not
good but it was edible.

The next day we went around Pompeii. We saw the amphitheatre,
the bakers, the local launderette
and plastercasts of people who were buried in ash during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. I found this fascinating.
Wherever we went, in Pompeii, and the villa of Poppeia Sabina – the Roman cities were about 20 – 30 feet lower than the level of the streets today. We also went to Amalfi where we went on a boat tour of the sites along the coast. We went shopping in Sorrento, swimming in a swimming pool and in the sea, where the beach was black
volcanic sand. We went up Vesuvius in the coach on the only day it
rained. As it was a dangerous climb we could only go so far, so we were able to collect some lava stones instead. We arrived
back at Heathrow Airport on Thursday 27th September.

Overall, we experienced a lot – mosquito bites, midge bites, Italian/Roman history, Italian beaches, pools, shopping and Italian
Ice cream and had a lot of fun. We also saw the teachers in a very different way than at school!! I think the trip was well worth the money.
